Luxury car brand Genesis has rolled out a new version of their concept car and have named it the “Speedium Coupe”. The original concept was released in 2021 and was called the Genesis X, but the new and improved version has caught the attention of car fanatics. Though it is just a concept car and Genesis has not suggested that they plan to actually produce the car, it is a good indicator of the direction Genesis wants to go with its car designs.
WHAT IS GENESIS X?
The original Genesis X design was a hallmark of the Genesis brand and style. The sleekness of the car aligns perfectly with the look Genesis has curated over the years. The color of the Genesis X was Lençóis Blue, inspired by the lagoons of Maranhenses National Park in Brazil. The color was made to showcase the brand’s dedication to pursuing sustainable luxury. The front of the car had a shield shaped Crest Grille, which the Genesis stated “represents the brand’s inherent dignity and pride.” It also had an impressive double-layered bumper.
The two-lined headlamps are a major element of the car’s overall design. The tail lights and the digital side mirror also follow the two line design, making the look of the car very cohesive. The back of the car incorporated the shape of a horseshoe. The interior is just as impressive as the exterior. With a floating dashboard and console and contrasting seat colors for the driver and passenger, the attention to detail and commitment to luxury design is evident.
WHAT IS DIFFERENT IN THE GENESIS SPEEDIUM COUPE?
The Speedium Coupe expands on the design of the Genesis X and was born out of a freestyle design exercise. The name of the concept is a reference to a racetrack in South Korea. Luc Donckerwolke, Genesis’ Chief Creative Officer claimed that this concept is ” a look into our design processes as we explore ideas for the next wave of EVs, one that incorporates Genesis’ DNA.” In designing this concept, Genesis adhered to the principle of reductive design, which is meant to follow a “less is more” mindset. The concept car is emerald green.
The specific name of the color is Inje Green, a reference to the mountainous landscape of the area where the racetrack car gets its name from. This design has done away with the Crest Grille that was an imperative part of the Genesis X’s look. Instead, the two-line headlamps evolved into a full-width element that outlines the triangular shape of the Grille. It has an EV face that is meant to symbolize Genesis’ goal of becoming an all-electric car brand.
Crest Grille
The erasure of the Crest Grille is another component of the intention to transition to electric vehicles, as EVs do not need grilles. Where the Genesis X had a completely smooth horseshoe shape for its rear design, the Speedium Coupe has a V-shaped brake light that interrupts the circular shape of its rear, in order to create contrast. The daytime running lamps have been integrated with the high beams and turn signals, a deliberate design to help carry the brand’s wing face for the electrification era.
From the top down, the car has an hourglass silhouette, giving it a sportier look. The side of the car has a Parabolic Line that extends from the front of the car to the end of it, a feature that is typical in classic cars. It has an anti-wedge design that enhances the elegance of the look of the car. This elevated concept points to an exciting future for Genesis and the electrification era.
